PlatFrog Hopper

PlatFrog Hopper is a 2D Platformer that will test the patience of even the most calm players. In a game where the character's corpse can be used as a platform, players must precisely jump from platform to platform until the reach Mrs. Frog all the way at the top.

Project Overview

Developed in five weeks alongside Tempo Dungeon, PlatFrog Hopper is a 2D platformer that blends precision skill with deliberate frustration to create an addictive gameplay loop. Using Unreal Engine 5 and the PaperZD plugin, I designed mechanics such as world-flipping to reveal hidden platforms and creating platforms with the character’s own body. The game emphasizes precise timing and simple yet punishing interactions that provoke tension and excitement—players repeatedly fail, feel the challenge, and are motivated to try again. Through this project, I explored how careful design of risk, reward, and emotional engagement can transform straightforward mechanics into a compelling and memorable player experience.

World Flipping & Character As Platform Mechanics

To break the game’s linearity and add depth, I implemented two unique mechanics. World flipping, increases difficulty by reintroducing tension, keeping players challenged after mastering the jumping mechanic. Using the character’s body as a platform is a multiplicative mechanic that serves both, as a necessary progression tool, and a safety net, enhancing gameplay strategy and player engagement.
