Project Description
Brickway is a TF2 map developed for the frenetic King Of The Hill game mode. The map is designed and thought to encourage all styles of gameplay and provide areas of strengths/weakness to all KOTH classes.
Project Overview
This project was developed over a five week period where I had to design a map for TF2's game mode KOTH. This project was fully developed in the Hammer engine. Brickway looks to meet all of the other KOTH map's conventions allowing for different flanking routes, sniper nests and close range combat. No TF2 class is useless in this map, they all have areas where they shine.
Design Considerations
With a clear goal in mind which is to make a King of the Hill TF2 map, there must be a lot of different considerations taken to achieve it effectively.
Traditionally, KOTH maps tend to feature symmetrical gameplay over a centralized objective . Conventionally the maps for this game mode are therefore symmetrical, where the type of symmetry can vary. Having symmetry, however, is what maintains a balance in the map and gives no team an advantage. This game mode features a capture point that players need to spend 3 minutes inside to win; hence it must have minimal cover and several sightlines onto it. This makes the objective dangerous to contest, creating a risk-reward design for those trying to capture it.
